The Chartered Institute of Commerce of Nigeria is the largest professional body in Commerce in Nigeria. It is dedicated to promoting and developing commercial/business education in Nigeria, West Africa, and worldwide.
The Institute was officially launched on November 24, 1979, at the University of Lagos.
The objectives of the Institute include promoting the art and science of Commerce, determining standards of knowledge and skills for Commercial Administrators, maintaining a register of members, providing professional training and qualifying examination schemes, organizing meetings and conferences, and more.
Membership requirements vary based on the desired grade. Student membership requires specific educational qualifications, while associateship and membership require professional examination results, work experience, or other recognized qualifications. Fellowship is granted based on discretion by the Executive Council.

The Institute’s certificates and diplomas are considered equivalent to certain qualifications and indicate a high level of achievement. The syllabuses and standards are comparable to Higher National Diplomas and aim to prepare candidates for middle-level manpower in commerce and general administration.
The examinations are usually held in July and December of each year. Examination centers are located in various cities across Nigeria, including Lagos, Abuja, Calabar, Kaduna, Kano, Enugu, and others.
